As soon as the first snow falls and there is night frost, the question of studded tires arises again for many. We already give the most important answers here.

Can you drive with spikes on normal roads?
No problem. However, if there is seldom snow and the road is mostly free, the running noises will soon bother you.

And you don't slip away?
No. The spikes “claw” themselves very well into normal asphalt roads.  Even fast corners are not a problem.

Aren't spikes prohibited?
With bicycle tires, spikes are not a problem. In some countries, spikes are only forbidden for motor vehicles because they damage the road. Fast e-bikes are, however, considered to be motor vehicles.

Do you have to break in the tires?
The tires should be run in for approx. 40 km on asphalt to ensure that the spikes are permanently held. Avoid strong acceleration and braking.

How long do the spikes last?
All Schwalbe spikes have a core made of extremely wear-resistant hard metal (tungsten carbide). You can drive a few thousand kilometers with it. It is normal for the corners to grind round and the spikes to press in a little deeper.

When do the tires reach their limits ?
Studded tires do not help in deep snow. 

I rarely have snow. 
How can I use studded tires sensibly?
It is ideal if you can mount the tires on a second bike. In the morning you decide on the right bike depending on the weather. On icy roads, when even the cars drive very carefully, it's a great feeling to have full control on the studded tires.
